“Dont lie quoting me,” R Ashwin takes social media user to task for 'Samson was approached by CSK' post

Ashwin warned the user against spreading fake news.

Ravichandran Ashwin | GettyVeteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday (November 29) took a social media user to task for spreading fake news.

The netizen made a post on X, claiming that Ashwin revealed in one of his YouTube videos that Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanu Samson was recently approached by defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the leadership role.

The post quoting Ashwin also mentioned that Samson rejected the offer but the latter stands a chance to represent CSK in the future.

The tweet stated: "Ashwin on his YouTube channel - "Sanju Samson was approached by CSK as a captain which was nearly finalised. But it dint go through Sanju rejected their offer. There's a definite possibility in future". #SanjuSamson #IPL2024 #iplauction2024."

The post went viral and Ashwin also took note of it. Subsequently, the off-spinner warned the user against misinformation.

“Fake news! Dont lie quoting me,” Ashwin replied to the post.

Earlier this year, MS Dhoni captained CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. In all probability, he will return to lead the Super Kings in the 2024 edition of Indian Premier League.

Following the IPL 2023 triumph, Dhoni had said it won’t be easy for him to play one more IPL season but he will try his best to give a gift to his fans.

“Looking for an answer? Circumstantially if you see, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love and affection I have been shown wherever I have been this year, the easy thing would be for me to say "Thank you very much", but the tough thing for me is to work hard for another 9 months and come back and play at least 1 more season of IPL. A lot depends on the body, I have 6-7 months to decide. It will be more like a gift from my side, it's not easy for me but that's a gift. The way they've shown their love and affection, I think that's something I need to do for them,” Dhoni had said.
