BCCI wants Rahul Dravid to continue after Ashish Nehra declines India head coach role in T20Is- Report

Rahul Dravid's tenure as India head coach ended with ICC World Cup 2023.

Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid | APThe BCCI wants Rahul Dravid to continue as the Indian team's head coach, atleast until the T20 World Cup 2024. This comes after Ashish Nehra, who is the head coach of Gujarat Titans, declined the offer to coach Team India.

Rahul Dravid’s, who had taken over from Ravi Shastri after the T20 World Cup 2021, tenure has ended with the ICC World Cup 2023. However, the BCCI is eager to give the former India captain a new contract. The T20 World Cup will be played in the USA and West Indies from June next year.

Under Ashish Nehra’s guidance, Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 in their debut season and reached the final of the tournament in IPL 2023. The BCCI had approached Nehra after India’s loss in the World Cup final. However, the former pacer declined to take up the job.

Reports have suggested that India captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are of the view that Dravid should continue till the next T20 World Cup. After India’s loss to Australia in the World Cup final, Dravid said ‘he had no time to think’ about whether he would want to continue as India coach.
