Veteran Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal is planning to make a comeback to competitive cricket with the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.

Notably, the left-handed batter Tamim hasn't played any cricket since September 2023 and wasn't part of the Bangladesh squad for the recent ICC World Cup 2023 due to fitness concerns.

In July 2023, Tamim retired from international cricket, but later he changed his mind after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested him to continue playing for his country.

On Monday, the 34-year-old discussed with Najmul Hasan Papon, the Chief of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), to decide on his future and he asked him to wait for some time to reveal his decision.

Tamim Iqbal told to media at his residence: I will probably start my cricket game from BPL. Then you might get an idea of what is going on. I don't want to keep things hanging for a few more months. I don't want to stretch it unnecessarily. I have already made my decision, after many discussions with the board. They told me many things and I have to respect them too.”

Let's wait till January, let me play BPL then there will be more discussion hopefully let's see what happens. I would never intentionally pull the thing. I was hoping to tell you about my plans today. But the board president said that he would make some difficult decisions after listening to everyone. I'll wait for that and see what happens,” he added.
