MS Dhoni’s achievement as a cricketer is surreal, to say the least. The 41-year-old has etched his name as one of the finest captains in the history of the game.
Dhoni is the only skipper in the history of cricket to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He also led India to two Asia Cup titles (2010 and 2016) and the pinnacle in Test cricket.
While Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he continues to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He captained CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title earlier this year.
Speaking on TRS Clips, former India batter Ambati Rayudu opened up on Dhoni’s unparalleled legacy in cricket.
Rayudu has observed Dhoni’s captaincy from the close quarters while playing for India and in the IPL.
"I mean see everybody knows that he has brought the best out the best in so many players and across formats, even he has brought out the best in many foreigners that have played for CSK. I think he has it in him. I don't even know how to express it because he is either blessed or he has cultivated it over so many years of playing the sport. But many times I wonder why is he doing something which I wouldn't think is appropriate. But end of the day, results show that he was right and he's right 99.9 percent of the times, that shows he knows what he is doing and he has done it for such a long time and so successfully that I don't think anybody in Indian cricket are in a position to question his decisions now because he's been so successful," Rayudu said.
Talking about Dhoni's treatment of foreigners in the IPL, Rayudu added, "Of course, it doesn't matter. He is our leader so I mean he doesn't shout just for the sake of shouting. But he will tell them subtly that this is what is expected types."
Dhoni will return to action during the 2024 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). He underwent a knee surgery soon after the completion of the IPL 2023 season and has made a good recovery so far.
