Gambhir and Dhoni were involved in a 109-run stand in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni | GettyFormer India opener Gautam Gambhir’s equation with ex-skipper MS Dhoni remains a mystery for the cricket fans.

Every now and then, Gambhir expresses his frustration over the media and fans giving credit to Dhoni for India’s 2011 World Cup triumph.

While Gambhir has clarified in the past that there is no bad blood between him and Dhoni, there is still a lot of speculation about their relationship.

Amidst all this, Gambhir has named Dhoni as his favourite batting partner in an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda.

The duo was part of many memorable partnerships, with the most popular one being the 109-run stand in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka.

“My favourite batting partner was MS Dhoni. People think that it was Virender Sehwag but I actually love playing more with Dhoni, especially in white-ball cricket. We shared big partnerships,” Gambhir said.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir has parted ways with Lucknow Super Giants as a team mentor ahead of the IPL 2024 season. He has rejoined Kolkata Knight Riders – the franchise with which he won two titles as captain.

“I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23,” Gambhir said in a statement released by KKR.

“Gautam has always been part of the family and this is our Captain coming back home in a different avatar as a ‘mentor’. He was sorely missed and now we all look forward to Chandu Sir and Gautam in instilling the never-say-die spirit and sportsmanship they stand for, in creating magic with Team KKR,” KKR’s team owner Shah Rukh Khan said.
