Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has emerged as a front-runner for the chief selector position, which was vacated by Inzamam-ul-Haq last month after allegations of 'Conflict of Interest' surfaced.

According to a PTI report, batting legend Younis Khan could also get an important designation in the national set-up.

Both the former cricketers along with current players Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir met with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf in Lahore on Tuesday (November 15).

After the dismal World Cup 2023 campaign, Pakistan’s next assignment is the three-Test tour of Australia followed by the five-T20I tour of New Zealand.

Apparently, Zaka met with Younis separately and has asked him to consider going with the team to Australia and New Zealand.

The report also claimed that under-fire skipper Babar Azam has been summoned for a meeting to discuss the team's listless display in the World Cup, where they lost five out of nine league matches.

"Zaka has called embattled captain, Babar Azam for a meeting on Wednesday in which most probably the batsman will be given another chance to lead the team in Australia and New Zealand," the PCB insider said, as quoted by PTI.

The insider also informed that most former players have suggested the PCB chief to continue with Babar as captain for the time being.

Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn have also come under the scanner following the disastrous World Cup campaign.

As per the PCB source, Arthur and Bradburn have been asked to take part in the meeting alongside Babar.

Despite the World Cup debacle, Zaka has insisted that he will not take any hasty decisions or press the panic button. The PCB chief would consult former players before reaching a conclusion on future course of action.
