Pakistan spin-bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim has countered the critique from the legendary pacer Wasim Akram. Imad, while hitting back at Akram over his recent remarks, said that he was dropped from the Pakistan team even when he was the No. 2 ranked all-rounder in the world.
Akram had said on A Sports that some players are sitting on TV instead of participating in domestic tournaments during the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
He was indirectly taunting Imad and Mohammad Amir, who are currently working as guest experts at Geo News for the World Cup 2023.
Wasim Akram had told A Sports: “Couple of the players are available to play domestic cricket but they are sitting on TV and then, they want to play for Pakistan. How is that possible?”
Imad responded to Akram’s criticism by saying that he was dropped from the Pakistan team without any reason and even at that time, he was the number 2 ranked all-rounder in the world.
Imad Wasim said on Geo News: “When I was playing for the Pakistan team, I was the World No. 2 all-rounder in rankings, and without any reason, I was dropped. Please tell me what is the guarantee now that if I will play domestic cricket, they will consider me?”
The Pakistani all-rounder also said that he would reach out to Akram for advice if the need arises. However, Imad stressed that even actively playing in domestic cricket doesn't assure a guarantee of being selected for the national team.
He signed off by saying, “Secondly, whoever has pointed this out, I will call him myself if I ever need advice. Two years ago, when I was asked to play domestic cricket, you can see my performance. But even then, I wasn't considered. So, there’s no guarantee here.”
