Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra files FIR after being cheated Rs 33 lakh by businessman: Report

Chopra was allegedly duped on the pretext of investing in a sports shoes business.

Aakash Chopra | XEx-India opener Aakash Chopra has filed a complaint with the Agra police after being duped of Rs 33 lakh by a shoe businessman, TOI reported.

Chopra has lodged an FIR against Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv, who allegedly duped the former cricketer on the pretext of investing in a sports shoes business.

According to the FIR registered at the Hariparwat police station under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), Chopra had given Rs 57.8 lakh to Dhruv as an investment to be made in the business.

"We entered into a formally notarised agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonoured," the FIR cited Chopra as saying.

"I spoke to Dhruv's father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honour the agreement on his son's behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal amount, Rs 33.3 lakh, a challenge," Chopra alleged in FIR.

Pertaining to the incident, SHO Arvind Kumar told TOI that documents and evidence provided by the complainant are currently being examined.

“Further action will be taken following investigation. The accused will also be called for questioning,” Kumar added.

This is not the first time that such an allegation has been made against the father-son duo. Earlier this year, India cricketer Deepak Chahar’s wife Jaya Bhardwaj had claimed that she was cheated Rs 10 lakh under the guise of a business venture.

However, the accused who owns a sports shop in Agra verbally abused Chahar’s family and also issued threats after they were asked to return the money.
