Asian Games 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden T20I ton powers India to 23-run win over Nepal

Jaiswal slammed 100 off 49 balls, becoming the youngest Indian to slam a T20I ton.

Yashasvi Jaiswal | ScreengrabYoung opener Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a scintillating batting performance in India’s Asian Games 2023 quarterfinal match against Nepal at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field, Hangzhou on Tuesday (October 3).

Keeping in mind the small dimension of the ground, the southpaw was aggressive from the outset as he raced to his half-century in just 22 balls.

As India lost three wickets in quick succession, Jaiswal curbed his attacking instincts a bit before opening up again to complete his maiden T20I hundred in 48 deliveries.

The left-hander became the youngest Indian to slam a T20I ton at 21 years 279 days, surpassing the record previously held by Shubman Gill, who achieved the same feat at the age of 23 years and 146 days against New Zealand earlier this year.

Jaiswal eventually fell for 100 off 49 balls, hitting 8 fours and 7 sixes in his whirlwind knock, which also made him the eighth Indian batter to smash a century in T20Is.

Besides Jaiwal’s heroics, the likes of Rinku Singh (37* off 15) and Shivam Dube (25* off 19) also returned with crucial cameos as India racked up a mammoth 202/4 on the board.

Defending the total, Indian bowlers restricted Nepal to 179/9 to win the contest by 23 runs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi starred with the ball for India, claiming three wickets by conceding 24 runs in his four overs.

For his stunning display with the bat, Yashasvi Jaiswal received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media platform X.
