Pakistan’s star pacer Haris Rauf took a nostalgic journey back to a memorable moment when he faced the modern-era batting legend Virat Kohli as a budding bowler during India's tour of Australia in 2018-19.

At that time, Kohli was at the peak of his international career when Rauf was given the opportunity to bowl the former Indian captain.

Reflecting back on that encounter, Rauf, who is now a prominent name in Pakistan's limited-overs bowling attack, said that he was really impressed with Kohli's unwavering focus and dedication even during practice sessions.

Kohli's exceptional dedication to his craft even in practice left a lasting impression on the young Rauf.

Speaking in ESPNcricinfo’s documentary The Incredible rise of Haris Rauf: “When I was a net bowler for the Indian team and was bowling to Virat Kohli, I felt like he knew exactly where the ball was going to hit his bat. He was very focussed and that showed how sharp his concentration was.”

Pakistani pacer further said, “Even during practice sessions in the nets, it felt like I was playing a match against him, despite being a net bowler. His remarkable control and intensity made me realize why he has such a reputation in the game.”

The 29-year-old revealed that the legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn inspired him to be aggressive on the field.

He signed off by saying, “I used to watch Dale Steyn and I liked the way he used to show aggression on the field after picking up a wicket. He inspired me to be aggressive on the field. That’s why he is my idol.”
