South African batter David Miller has an undesirable record to his name. The southpaw has played more international cricket than anyone else without playing a Test match.

Having made his international debut in 2010, Miller has represented South Africa in 160 ODIs and 114 T20Is so far. However, he is yet to feature in a Test match, something that he would have loved to do.

“I would have loved to play a Test, but it is what it is,” the 34-year-old quoted as saying by AFP.

“I’ve achieved quite a lot in my white-ball stuff and I’m grateful to have played so many games.”

Miller’s record in First-Class is quite decent, averaging 36.32 after 63 matches with 6 hundreds and 19 half-centuries to his name.

However, he never got a chance to break into the Proteas Test batting line-up featuring legendary names such as Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis.

In 2018, David Miller decided to call time on his First-Class career. “I wasn’t being picked, even for the South Africa A side. There were guys ahead of me so I decided to concentrate on the white-ball stuff,” he said.

Miller is part of the South African squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. He usually bats at No. 6 in the 50-over format and, thus, will have to take responsibility for rebuilding an innings during the quadrennial event.

“It’s about summing up the situation. Sometimes you are batting with the lower order and you have to decide with your partner at the time how you are going to go about it.

“It’s like a chess game at times. You are thinking about moves and what’s important and what’s not. It’s about making clear decisions. It helps your execution when you are fully committed.”

South Africa are due to open their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on October 7 in Delhi.

“The World Cup is very open. We’re a pretty experienced team. We’re capable of doing it, so it’s a matter of getting the basics right for longer periods of time,” Miller said.
