Tanzim Hasan Sakib | GettyBangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib on Tuesday (September 19) issued an apology for old his social media posts that criticized working women.

Tanzim impressed one and all on his international debut against India in the recently held Asia Cup 2023. The right-arm quick took two wickets against India, including the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma and also demonstrated his composure in the final over to secure victory for Bangladesh.

However, the adulation quickly turned into condemnation when his misogynistic comments came to light.

However, the 20-year-old dismissed the label of being a misogynist, pointing out that his own mother is a woman.

"He said he was sorry," Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus told reporters in Dhaka.

Yunus further said that Tanzim had been warned not to make similar social media posts in the future while also revealing the bowler had insisted he was "not misogynistic".

"He said he is not against women, as his mother is a woman," Jalal Yunus said.

In his Facebook post dating back to last year, Tanzim wrote: "If the wife works, the husband's rights are not ensured. If the wife works, the child's rights are not ensured. If the wife works, her elegance is damaged. If the wife works, the family is ruined. If the wife works, the veil is ruined. If the wife works, society is ruined."

In another post, Tanzim warned men that their sons would not have a "modest" mother if they married "a woman who is accustomed to free mixing with her male friends in a university".

The comments sparked criticism, with Paris-based feminist writer Jannatun Nayeem Prity stating that the Bangladesh team jerseys were made in factories mostly staffed by women.

"I feel sorry for you that you don't consider your mother a normal human being," she said.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib has played 12 first-class matches in his career so far. He was part of Bangladesh’s Under-19 World Cup triumph in 2020.
