South Africa will host Australia in three T20Is and five T20Is from August 30 to September 17.

Dewald Brevis | GettySouth Africa on Monday (August 14) announced their squads for the upcoming home ODI and T20I series against Australia, starting August 30.

Young batting sensation Dewald Brevis has been named in both the squads thanks to his brilliance in the domestic circuit and various T20 leagues.

Fondly known as ‘Baby AB’ for his AB de Villiers-like batting style, Brevis first caught the imagination of the cricketing world during the ICC Men's U-19 World Cup 2022, emerging as the top scorer in the tournament.

All-rounder Donovan Fereira and pacer Gerald Coetzee have also received maiden call-ups in the T20I squad.

The Proteas side has also been bolstered by the return of left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, who was out of action since March this year due to injury. Maharaj has been included in the T20I squad for the second and third matches while he is also a part of the ODI squad.

Key players such as Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Heinrich Klaasen have been rested for the three-match T20I series.

The five-match ODI series will be crucial for South Africa's preparations for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, slated to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

"We are looking for opportunities to grow our base of players, and the T20I series against Australia is a perfect chance to give some of the rising cricketers in the country the chance to show us what they are capable of," South Africa’s white-ball head coach Rob Walter said while commenting on the selections.
