Former Sri Lanka cricketer Sachithra Senanayake, who has been accused of fixing matches, was on Monday (August 14) slapped with a travel ban by a local court in Colombo.

Senanayake, who represented his country in one Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20 Internationals, is facing the charges of fixing games in the 2020 edition of Lanka Premier League.

The right-arm off-spinner allegedly lured two players to fix games over the telephone. The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court ordered the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration to impose a travel ban on Senanayake which will be effective for a three-month period, PTI reported.

The court order was obtained by the Attorney General’s Department. The court was told that the Attorney General’s Department had been instructed by the Special Investigation Unit of the Sports Ministry to frame criminal charges against the former off-spinner.

Sachithra Senanayake took 53 ODI wickets and 25 T20I wickets for Sri Lanka. He failed to claim a wicket in the only Test he played against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2013.

The 38-year-old, who was part of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2014, announced his retirement from international cricket in February 2020.
