India and Bengal batter Manoj Tiwary made a shock U-turn on his retirement, days after calling time on his professional cricket career.

Addressing a media conference at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday (August 8), Tiwary expressed his intention to reverse his decision as he wants to give one more shot at clinching the elusive Ranji Trophy title.

The two-time champions Bengal made to the Ranji final twice within the last three seasons. However, they lost to Saurashtra in the summit clash on both occasions.

"It was a proud moment for me to captain Bengal to the final last season. I want to give it one more try before leaving," Tiwary told reporters.

The press conference was called by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly.

"Next year, there will not be any more U-turn. I want to give one more year to Bengal cricket," he added.

Last week, Manoj Tiwary took to Instagram and announced his retirement with a lengthy message, thanking all the people who have played a part in his career.

In the media conference, Tiwary revealed that his wife was also taken aback by his decision and the CAB president persuaded him to return.

"She had gone to gym and after coming back she also scolded me. Dada (Snehasish Ganguly) also convinced me to return."

"I'm coming out of retirement for one last year. Bengal cricket has given me everything. I want to give it last try, be it as a player or captain," Tiwary said.

Manoj Tiwary has been a great servant of Bengal cricket, amassing 9908 runs in 141 First-Class matches at an average of 48.56 with 29 centuries. He also left a mark in List A cricket, scoring 5581 runs from 169 games at 42.28 with 6 tons.
