Bumrah to lead India on the 3-T20I Ireland tour in August | GettyThe news of Jasprit Bumrah returning to the Indian colors after being declared fully fit is a big boost to India’s chances of a third World Cup win, once again at home this time and it has elated both the fans and former India players as well.

Bumrah, who had been out of action since September 2022 and underwent a surgery earlier this year, recovered and rehabilitated at the NCA. He was recently seen bowling in a practice game and before that was sending down balls at full speed in nets.

So, it was a huge sign of confidence as the pacer was named the captain of the Indian team for the three-T20I tour of Ireland in August, as it will ease him back into the rigors of international cricket especially with the Asia Cup and World cup on the horizon.

Speaking of the importance of Jasprit Bumrah, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh called him the 'Virat Kohli of bowling' while highlighting how crucial the Gujarat pacer is to India’s hopes of ending their 10-year ICC trophy drought.

"Jasprit Bumrah has made a comeback. He was injured for a long time and his return was awaited. He has come back and has been made the captain straightaway. Congratulations to Jassi for becoming the captain and foremost for getting fit. I hope and keep my fingers crossed that Jassi doesn't get injured again," Harbhajan said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"He has been missed a lot, whether you see the WTC final or the cricket that was played before that. I used to say earlier and am saying it today as well that if we talk about batting, we talk about Virat Kohli, and if there is a Virat Kohli of bowling, it is Jasprit Bumrah. There is no bigger name than him," he said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named Bumrah’s deputy in Ireland while Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma have been rewarded for their IPL performances.
