Usman Khawaja has backed out of form David Warner to come good and score big in the remaining two Tests of the Ashes 2023 and also hailed him as one of the greatest openers of all time ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester.
After scoring just one fifty in the first three Tests of the Ashes 2023 and getting out in both innings of the third Test in Leeds to nemesis Stuart Broad, Warner’s spot in the Australian XI is not confirmed yet.
His partner Khawaja has scored a century and two fifties in the tourists' first three Tests against England, but Warner has struggled overall, despite an innings of 66 in the second Test at Lord's.
"From my point of view, David Warner is in the top tier for Australia ever. With all respect, the media will write what sells newspapers and I understand that. He's probably the hot topic right now. But I'll always back David no matter what and I think all the other guys would too.
With Marnus, he's just getting started and getting out - it sucks. He's normally a very good competitor, but I do not doubt that at some level, I expect him to get big runs in the next couple of games. He's too good not to if he keeps getting starts the way he is. His mindset is too good, he's so level-headed,” Khawaja said at training ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester.
Usman Khawaja is the leading scorer for Australia with 359 runs at an average of 59.
