Jasprit Bumrah expected to make comeback during Ireland T20I tour next month: Report

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since September 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah | GettyTeam India badly missed the services of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia last month.

Bumrah has been out of action for a long period because of his recurring back injury. He was last seen in action during the home T20I series against Australia in September 2022.

Earlier this year, the right-arm quick underwent back surgery and missed the IPL 2023 season for Mumbai Indians (MI).

While there has been no official update regarding his return to the game, a report published in The Indian Express suggests that Bumrah is close to regaining full-fitness and is in line to tour Ireland with the Indian team for T20Is next month.

According to the report, Bumrah, who is currently training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, has been gradually increasing his workload and is bowling at full throttle at the nets, sending down 8-10 overs.

“While the selectors and the team management were looking to include Bumrah for the Asia Cup in September, the progression he has made in the last couple of weeks means he could travel to Ireland next month with a second-string India team. It is understood that a decision on this would be taken in the coming days,” The Indian Express report stated.

The report also claims that Bumrah isn’t showing any discomfort at the nets and he might play a few practice matches at the NCA before being picked for the Indian team.

Since Jasprit Bumrah is one of India’s key bowlers in the 50-over format, the Men in Blue would hope that he regains his match fitness soon and produce his best for the team in the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
