In a positive news for the Indian fans, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer on Thursday (July 13) hit the nets after recovering from a back injury.
Taking to Instagram, Shreyas uploaded a video, in which he can be seen playing a big shot in the nets. In the caption, he posted an emoji believed to protect against the evil eye.
Here’s the post:
The back injury had kept Shreyas Iyer out of India’s home ODI series against New Zealand in January this year. He also missed the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Nagpur in February due to the same issue.
Iyer played the second and third Tests of the series in Delhi and Indore respectively, scoring just 42 runs in four innings. He sustained a recurrence of a back injury during the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad and couldn’t bat in India’s only innings.
In order to treat his lower back injury, Shreyas underwent surgery in London in April this year. Subsequently, he checked into the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation.
In the meantime, Iyer missed the entire IPL 2023 season as Nitish Rana stood in as KKR’s captain in his absence. The right-hander also missed out on the WTC final against Australia last month.
Since Shreyas Iyer is one of India’s key batters in the 50-over format, the Men in Blue would hope that he regain his match fitness soon as be available for the team in the forthcoming Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
