Shaheen Shah Afridi put on a fast bowling exhibition while playing in the T20 Blast for Nottinghamshire against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge on Friday (June 30).

The left-arm pacer, who is known for wreaking havoc with the new ball, picked up four wickets in his very first over against Warwickshire.

It was not a good start for Shaheen, who conceded five wides with his first ball. However, the lanky Pakistani paceman claimed wickets with his first, second, fifth and sixth legal deliveries to reduce Warwickshire to 7/4 after the first over.

Alex Davies (0), Chris Benjamin (0), Dan Mousley (1) and Ed Barnard (0) were the victims of Shaheen. While Davies and Barnard were at the receiving end of stunning yorkers, Benjamin was knocked over after he attempted to play the pre-meditated scoop.

On the other hand, Mousley lost his wicket curtsey of a brilliant one-handed catch by Olly Stone at short cover.

However, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s remarkable bowling display went in vain as Nottinghamshire lost the rain-affected fixture by two wickets.

“We deserved to win but they played well in the last few overs after the rain. It was the first time I took four wickets in my first over. It was good but if we would have won the game that would have been nice. Unfortunately we lost,” Shaheen said after the game.

“It felt really nice the way crowd was supporting me. When I was running in, it felt like I am playing in Pakistan. I have spent good time with my teammates, it is like a family.

“Rain delay affected the game. It changed the game. We were not able to grip the ball but that’s cricket you can’t control the weather,” he added.

Chasing the target, Rob Yates’ half-century (65 off 46 balls) and some valuable contributions from Glenn Maxwell (19), Jacob Bethell (27) and Jake Lintott (27*) took Warwickshire over the line in 19.1 overs.
