“Partied all night and next day he scored 250,” Ishant Sharma recalls Virat Kohli’s brilliance from U-19 days

Kohli is widely regarded as one of the best batters of the modern era.

Virat Kohli | GettyStar India batter Virat Kohli’s physical transformation has been awe-inspiring, to say the least. In fact, several members of the Indian cricket team got inspired by his fitness regime and started training with discipline.

Kohli has often attributed his success with the willow to his intense fitness regime. However, in order to attain supreme fitness levels, the 34-year-old has had to make some serious changes to his eating habits and lifestyle.

Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s YouTube channel, veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma pointed out that Virat was not always this particular about his fitness.

“He has changed a lot. I have seen his party phase and his tattoo phase as well,” Ishant, who has played alongside Kohli for the Delhi team, stated.

Ishant revisited an incident from the U-19 days when Kohli partied all night and slammed 250 the next day.

“We were playing an U-19 match in Kolkata. He was batting overnight, yet partied all night and next day he scored 250. I have seen that phase of Kohli as well,” he added.

In the past, Virat Kohli has himself admitted that he wasn't always this dedicated towards fitness. During his initial years in international cricket, he was not aware of how to take proper care of his body and was developing certain bad habits. However, things changed once he himself realized that he needs to get his act right in 2012.

Ishant also mentioned that Kohli was a foodie but he restrained himself to become the cricketer and role model that he is today.

“The best thing about him, according to me, is how he changed his physical aspect starting 2012, after the World Cup. He was training, but because of his diet, his mental strength and cricket in general went to a different level.”

“Delhi people like eating a lot, but he left everything. From 2012 to now, I have only seen him eating chole bhature once or twice. On my cheat day, I have paneer nan,” the fast bowler stated.
