England pacer Stuart Broad has taken a hilarious dig at the Australian media after he lost the ‘no.1 villain’ tag to fellow speedster Ollie Robinson thanks to his antics in the Edgbaston Test of the Ashes 2023.
Robinson became enemy numero uno, after his expletive-laden sendoff to Usman Khawaja in the first innings and then for continuing the banter on day five as well, making some remarks at the Australian opener, leading to James Anderson intervening and separating the two.
However, the Australian media referred to Robinson as the No.1 villain.
“No. 1 villain Ollie Robinson has learned his fate over an expletive-laden send-off to Usman Khawaja,” Fox Cricket tweeted.
To this, Broad took a dig by tweeting: “No.1 Villain?!” I can’t have lost that tag already, can I?! Disappointing.”
To give some context to how Broad got the ‘villain no.1’ tag, one has to go back to the 2013 Ashes when the Australian press labeled Broad a "public enemy". It was after Broad refused to walk in the first Test of the Ashes.
Broad was on top of his game in the recent Edgbaston Test where he picked up six wickets and was the standout bowler for England. Broad got three wickets apiece in the first and second innings.
