“Goal is to play against Virat Kohli”- Ex-Pakistan U19 batter Shayan Jahangir after ton for USA in WC Qualifier

Shayan Jahangir played for Pakistan U19 and PIA in domestic cricket.

Shayan Jahangir | GettyUnited States of America’s (USA) batter Shayan Jahangir, who had played U19 cricket for Pakistan, says his ultimate goal is to play against Virat Kohli and show that he is well and truly capable of playing in big leagues around the world.

On Tuesday, June 20, Jahangir scored his maiden ODI hundred in a Group A match of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023 against Nepal at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare.

The right-handed scored 100* off 79 balls with 10 fours and three sixes, although his knock went in vain. The USA lost the match to Nepal by six wickets.

To play against Virat Kohli, that’s my ultimate goal. Play against him, and show there’s another batter on the block, waiting for the opportunities in all these big leagues,” Jahangir told ICC.

Before moving to USA for better opportunities, Jahangir played for the Pakistan U19 team alongside the likes of Sami Islam, Imam-Ul-Haq, Hussain Talat and others. He also played for Pakistan International Airlines in domestic cricket.

The 28-year-old was also a part of the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

In 9 ODIs thus far, Jahangir has scored 235 runs at an average of 33.57 and a strike-rate of 90.73 with one hundred to his name.
