Australia batters Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne became the first three batters from the same country to occupy the top three spots in the ICC Test batting rankings for the first time since 1984.
Player of the Match in the World Test Championship (WTC 2023) Final Travis Head (884 rating points), who scored 163 in the first innings, jumped three places to join Marnus Labuschagne (1st - 903 rating points) and Steve Smith (2nd - 885 rating points) in the batting chart.
The last time this happened when three batters from the same team occupied the top three spots in Test rankings was in December of 1984. Then, Gordon Greenidge (810), Clive Lloyd (787), and Larry Gomes (773) from West Indies achieved this feat.

Usman Khawaja, who is 9th in the Test rankings with 777 rating points makes it four Australians in the top 10.
For India, Rishabh Pant, who is recovering following a car accident, remains the highest-ranked Indian at number 10. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are static in 12th and 13th spots respectively.
Ajinkya Rahane, who made his India Test comeback after almost 18 months, climbed to the 37th position while Shardul Thakur rose to 94th among batters, even as Ravichandran Ashwin maintained his top spot among Test bowlers despite not featuring in the WTC final.
Fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja held on to his ninth spot. However, the injured Jasprit Bumrah, who last played a Test match in July 2022, has dropped two spots to eighth.
Australia keeper Alex Carey progressed 11 places to 36th after scoring 48 and 66 not out in the WTC final, and on the other hand, Nathan Lyon (up two places to sixth) and Scott Boland (up five places to 36th) have also moved up.
