Former India batter Suresh Raina’s name features in the list of players who will be up for grabs during the Lanka Premier League 2023 auction, scheduled for June 14.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Monday (June 12) released a list of international and domestic cricketers set to go under the hammer in the T20 league featuring five teams.
Raina played every season of the Indian Premier League between 2008 and 2021 except for 2020 when he returned to India from the UAE due to personal reasons.
The southpaw has appeared in 205 IPL matches, amassing 5528 runs at a strike rate of 136.73 with one century and 39 fifties. He played for CSK and Gujarat Lions in the IPL and represented Uttar Pradesh in domestic tournaments.
According to BCCI’s regulations, a player has to announce his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket to take part in foreign leagues.
Former India U-19 skipper Unmukt Chand and Harmeet Singh are some of the other players who have announced retirement from all forms of domestic cricket to play franchise cricket in the United States. In fact, Chand has also played in the Big Bash League.
Among the leading names, the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa have plied their trade in overseas leagues after retiring from all forms of Indian cricket.
