Pakistani fast bowling great Wasim Akram has lavished rich praise on young Shubman Gill and even said that he reminded him of how Sachin Tendulkar used to bat in ODIs in the first 10 overs.
Shubman Gill's regular performances have the Indian cricket community in a frenzy, and Akram has jumped on the bandwagon to praise the opening batsman for his outstanding play.
Akram discovered similarities between 'the Prince' and 'the God' from the standpoint of a bowler, even though some people don't want to compare Gill to Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar just yet.
According to Akram, the bowlers currently facing Gill will experience the same emotions he did when facing Tendulkar in his prime. In the near future, Gill, in the opinion of Akram, will not only be a cricketing legend in India but also the world over.
"When I bowl to a player like Gill, even in T20 format, it's like I am bowling to Sachin Tendulkar in one-day cricket in the first 10 overs, when only two fielders were allowed (outside the 30-yard circle)," Akram told Sportskeeda.
"If I had to bowl to Jayasuriya or Kaluwitharana, I knew I had a chance. I can get them out as they hit on every ball. But, players like Sachin and Gill, they play proper cricketing shots. I think he is the kind of player who can score in all three formats consistently. He is a future superstar of world cricket,” he added.
After earning the Orange Cap for the most run in IPL 2023- 890, Shubman Gill has to shift focus on the ultimate Test as India faces off against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final which begins at the Oval in London from June 7.
