Sachin Tendulkar vows to create healthy environment for son Arjun; advises him to stay focused

Speaking at a book launch event of 'Scintillating Sachin', Tendulkar spoke about the critical role played by his parents and two brothers in the early part of his cricketing career.

"I got the support from my family. Ajit Tendulkar (brother) was instrumental in finding a solution. Nitin Tendulkar (brother) made the painting for me on my birthday. My mother was working in LIC, while my father was a professor. They gave me freedom. I urge parents to give freedom to their children as well," Tendulkar said.

Talking about Arjun Tendulkar, who represented Mumbai Indians in the recently-concluded IPL, Sachin said he tells his son to focus on his game.

"I am trying to create the same environment which was created for me. When you appreciate yourself, people will appreciate you. Pay attention to your game as what my father used to say, and now I am telling Arjun," he added.

"The media felicitated me when I retired from the game. At that time, I had requested the media to give the required space to Arjun and let him fall in love with Cricket. The journalists gave him the freedom, so I thank them for this," he further remarked.

Sachin Tendulkar also narrated his wife's massive role in stopping him from undergoing surgery.

"During the Australia tour, I was having so many injuries that I decided to undergo surgery of both the legs. But, Anjali came all the way to Australia and cancelled that surgery. I was so frustrated due to injuries but Anjali took care of me," Tendulkar said.

In a career spanning 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs for India, scoring the world record number of runs (15921 in Tests and 18426 in ODIs) and centuries (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs).

Tendulkar also holds the record for being the first man to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, first batter to score 100 international centuries, first male cricketer to score a double ton in ODIs, most matches played in both formats and other numerous milestones.
