“There’s too much depth,” Sourav Ganguly suggests Team India to bat ‘aggressively’ at the top

India’s batting woes were exploited by the Aussie bowlers in the recently held ODI series.

India lost the ODI series 2-1 to Australia | GettyIndian cricket team has moved close to the ICC titles since Champions Trophy 2013 triumph, but they couldn't get one for a long time. In 2014, India lost the T20 World Cup final, the ODI World Cup 2015 saw an exit in semi-finals and same in T20 World Cup 2016, the ODI World Cup 2019 and the T20 World Cup 2022.

The Men in Blue were also defeated by Pakistan and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy and World Test Championship finals in 2017 and 2021, respectively.

With less than 9 months to go for the ICC Cricket World Cup in India, former skipper Sourav Ganguly has suggested the Men in Blue to bat ‘aggressively’ at the top as they have enough batting depth with the presence of Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel.

During the recently held ODI series against Australia, India’s batting woes were exploited by the Aussie bowlers and the hosts suffered 2-1 defeat.

“India have to play aggressively, especially in T20s. They have the team to do that. A team which sometimes has Akshar Patel batting at No. 9 must play aggressively at the top. Pandya batting at No. 6 and Jadeja at No. 7, there’s too much depth," Ganguly said while speaking to the Times of India.

“It’s about adjusting to the pressure, knowing your game and batting according to your game. Indian cricket will always have talent and a big pool. It’s the ones who are more hungry go to the next level. It’s about how you prepare for the big tournaments," he further added.

Ganguly also showered rich praise on DC batter Prithvi Shaw who he feels is ready to play for India.

“I think Prithvi Shaw is ready to play for India. Whether he gets an opportunity will depend on slots. I am sure Rohit Sharma and selectors have a close eye on him. He is a good player and ready," he remarked.
