Ireland to host India for 3 T20Is; Bangladesh to tour for three ODIs as Irish sight qualification for 2023 World Cup

Ireland to play Bangladesh in three ODIs in Chelmsford instead of at home.

Deepak Hooda had scored a scintillating century last time India went to Ireland | GettyThe Indian team will be touring Ireland in August for a series of three T20Is matches, Cricket Ireland announced on March 17, 2023. The last time India visited Ireland was in 2022 for two T20Is.

Hardik Pandya had led India for the first time in T20Is, as the crowd saw two exciting encounters between the two sides. Unfortunately, Ireland lost the series 0-2 despite both matches being high-scoring encounters with India’s Deepak Hooda slamming an excellent century as well.

All three T20Is will be played between August 18-23 at Malahide.

The world's best T20I team returning for a second straight year is a testament to the skill and toughness of the current Irish team and a suitable way to cap off the summer's domestic international matches.

Apart from India, Ireland will also play host to Bangladesh, who will be coming for a three-ODI tour. These three ODIs will be part of the ICC Super League and Ireland will be looking forward to winning these matches which may see them also qualify automatically for the 2023 World Cup in India.

If Ireland does not win 3-0, they will head to Zimbabwe in June for the 50-over World Cup Qualifier. The three ODIs will be played on May 9, 12, and 14, to Chelmsford.

Cricket Ireland has reasoned there is a better chance of good weather in early-season England than in either Dublin or Belfast, where they are reliant on temporary facilities that could further undermine their chances of three completed games.

Warren Deutrom, Chief Executive of Cricket Ireland, said: “We can today confirm India visiting Ireland for a second consecutive year and confirm the World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh will proceed in early May. This is on top of the already announced Test match at Lord’s in June and the three-match ODI series in September against England.”

We extend our grateful thanks to the Bangladesh Cricket Board for fitting in matches rescheduled during the Covid era, as well as to the BCCI and Cricket West Indies for being so flexible given the uncertainties of World Cup Qualifier participation. It certainly hasn’t been an easy task to schedule these fixtures, but we have achieved it and are delighted to confirm them today.”
