Former Australian cricketer Mark Taylor said that being a top qualifier for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final is a great achievement for the Pat Cummins-led Australian cricket team. Taylor also said that Australia is the favourite to win the WTC 2023 Final against India.

There will be a battle for the Test Championship Mace between Australia and India at The Oval, London, from June 7, and the former cricketer said that it will provide great practice to the Kangaroos for the Ashes 2023 against England.

He further said that Australia could possibly make bold calls for the 2023 World Cup Final, as he hinted that David Warner would not be picked for the mega-clash in England.

Warner’s place in the Test team is already under the scanner and even he was close to getting sacked before an elbow injury forced him out of the last two Test matches on the India tour.

Mark Taylor told The Herald and The Age: “I think the Test Championship is a godsend for Australia really. Making the final and being the top qualifier is a great achievement, but it’s another Test match in England.”

The Aussie added, “So apart from being a chance to win the World Test Championship, it’s also a damn fine practice match for the Ashes series, playing at The Oval, which is one of the Tests grounds obviously, and playing in English conditions against a quality Indian side.”

Taylor signed off by saying, “I think that’ll be ideal for Australia. There’s going to be some tough selection calls.”
