Ashwin played a key role in India’s 2-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy win over Australia, taking a total of 25 wickets. As a result, he now occupies the pole position with 869 rating points while Anderson is at second with 859 rating points.

Former India skipper Virat Kohli also made giant strides after his drought-breaking century during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, moving up seven places to find himself at the 13th spot in the rankings for batters.

Kohli ended over three-year wait for a century in the longest format with a painstaking 186 in the drawn final Test against Australia. The right-hander is now on the heels of teammates Rishabh Pant (ninth) and Rohit Sharma (10th) as India players ahead of him on the Test batter rankings.

Akshar Patel’s batting was one of the biggest positives for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The spin all-rounder finished the series as India’s second highest run-getter with 264 runs from five innings, including three half-centuries.

As a result, Akshar has been rewarded in the ICC Test rankings for batters. The southpaw jumped up eight places to 44th on the list for batters and gained one place to find himself at the fourth spot overall on the list for all-rounders.

Australia players also made eye-catching moves, with stylish opener Usman Khawaja moving up two slots to seventh on the Test batter rankings following a series-high 333 runs and emerging all-rounder Cameron Green jumping 11 places to 26th on the list for batters after he slammed his maiden Test century in Ahmedabad.

Travis Head also maintained his fifth position on the rankings for Test batters at a new career high of 853 rating points.
