Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter and commentator, Dinesh Karthik, recalled an incident involving iconic cricketer Sachin Tendulkar from a 1998 match between India and Australia.

While commentating on Day 3 of the fourth Test match between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, Karthik recalled one of his great memories when he went to watch a Test match for the first time with his father. The keeper said he went to the stadium only to watch Tendulkar bat.

He further revealed that a stranger sitting next to him described Tendulkar’s running between the wicket as a "rat running after cheese," and he still remembers these lines.

Dinesh Karthik said during the commentary on Star Sports: “I know vividly. In 1998, my dad took me for the first time to watch a Test match, India vs Australia. I had come to watch one batsman, Sachin Tendulkar. The person sitting next to me, a stranger in the crowd said, ‘you will enjoy watching Sachin Tendulkar bat. But also don’t forget his swift running between the wickets. He runs like a rat who runs after the cheese, but the only difference being he doesn’t get trapped’.”

He added, “I remember these lines very vividly. Sachin got 155. What an innings that was, I’ll never forget it. So many sixes, one of them came right where we were sitting. We were sitting between long-on and deep midwicket. Great memories.”

Notably, Tendulkar had made 155, and India won that match in Chennai by 179 runs and later the three-match Test series by 2-1 against Australia.
