Former India opener Shiv Sunder Das might be appointed as the interim BCCI chief selector after Chetan Sharma stepped down from the position following a sting operation by a news channel.
According to a PTI report, Das is likely to take over the role as he has the most number of Test caps (23) among the current lot in the selection panel.
In November 2022, Chetan and the entire selection committee was sacked following India's semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia. He re-applied for the post and was re-appointed as chairman last month.
During a sting operation, Chetan Sharm can be seen making some shocking statements regarding some behind the scenes of Indian cricket, including a rift between Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli among many other topics.
"Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn't asked to resign," a senior BCCI source told PTI on Friday (February 17).
As per the report, Chetan was in Kolkata along with other selection committee members for the Ranji Trophy final between Bengal and Saurashtra. They were there to select the Irani Cup team.
After his resignation was accepted, Chetan left for Delhi and avoided the media at the airport.
