For few hours on Wednesday, February 15, the Indian cricket media and fans celebrated the crowning of Team India as the new world number one Test side in the world, also making them only the second team ever to top the rankings in all three formats simultaneously. However, the joy proved to be short-lived.
As it appears now, there was possibly a glitch on the ICC website that resulted in India being the top-ranked Test team in the world for about five hours. Australia is now back at the top with 126 rating points, as they were before being handed a crushing defeat by India in the first Test at Nagpur.

ICC has so far not commented or explained the reason that caused a lot of confusion as multiple media outlets covered the news, while IPL franchises and other cricket websites generated creatives and Instagram reels to celebrate India's achievement. Even BCCI secretary Jay Shah was fooled by the same as he congratulated the Indian team on their feat before deleting his tweet.
