Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has been on a record-breaking spree with the bat in recent times. Apart from his on-field exploits, the right-hander is also winning hearts of the cricket fans with his graceful conduct.
Last year, Babar tweeted his support for star India batter Virat Kohli, who was enduring an extended lean patch with the bat for a while.
Amid Kohli’s struggles on the tour of England in July 2022, Babar had tweeted: “This too shall pass. Stay strong. #ViratKohli”.
For his classy gesture, Babar Azam was lauded by the fans and former cricketers. In fact, Kohli too had replied to the Pakistan captain’s message, stating: “Thank you. Keep shining and rising. Wish you all the best.”
Almost seven months later, Babar opened up on his post for Kohli in an interview with ICC Digital Insider Zainab Abbas.
“As a sportsperson, anyone can go through such a time. At that time I thought maybe if I tweet it might give someone help and confidence. See, as a player, you try to back every sportsman in a difficult time,” Babar stated.
“It is in difficult times when you get to know what you are thinking about others. At that time, I thought I should have done that and maybe something positive will come out of it. Something which can be a plus point,” he added.
Incidentally, Virat Kohli regained his form soon after Babar Azam extended his support for him. He finished the Asia Cup 2022 as the second highest run-getter with 276 runs to his name from five innings.
During the tournament, Kohli also ended his much-talked-about century drought as he slammed 122* off 61 balls in India’s last Super-4 clash against Afghanistan.
After founding his old touch, Virat started dominating bowling attacks again as he ended the T20 World Cup 2022 as the highest run-getter.
