Steve Smith wins 4th Allan Border medal; Beth Mooney receives Belinda Clarke Award in 2023 Australian cricket awards

David Warner was named the Men's ODI Player of the Year | GettyAce Australian batter Steve Smith was awarded the Allan Border medal at the 2023 Australian Cricket Awards. This is his fourth time receiving the prestigious medal and puts him alongside Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke.

On the other hand, Beth Mooney claimed her second Belinda Clark Award as the annual award show returned to in-person after two years of low-key virtual presentations due to the Covid pandemic.

Steve Smith won the medal with 171 votes well ahead of Travis Head (144 votes) and David Warner (141). Smith had previously won the award in 2015, 2018, and 2021.

Beth Mooney had won the women's ODI cricketer of the year award and now has her second Belinda Clark award as well having previously won in 2021. She got 129 votes to outpace captain Meg Lanning (110 votes) and allrounder Tahlia McGrath (95 votes).

David Warner was chosen as the Men’s ODI Player of the Year for his 52 runs across 13 games at an average of 42.46. He had tied on 25 votes with Steve Smith but won the tiebreaker because he had polled the maximum three votes in more games – three times to Smith's one.

Usman Khawaja was given the inaugural Shane Warne Test player of the year award for a prolific 12 months that saw him score 1,020 runs in the voting period, at an average of 78.46.

BBL 12 Player of the Tournament was Matt Short who finished as the tournament's top run-scorer with 458 striking at 144.47. Ashleigh Gardner was the Women’s BBL Player of the tournament for her 339 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 153.

Tahlia McGrath was crowned as Australia Women's T20 Player of the Year as she made 463 runs at 57.87 in the 18 T20s and also picked 13 wickets in the said period.

Marcus Stoinis was named the Men’s T20 Player of the Year for his 47 runs at a strike rate of 168.44, as well as for taking eight wickets in the 16 games he played.
