Babar Azam | GettyPakistan skipper Babar Azam on Thursday (January 26) claimed the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award for a second consecutive year, following his exploits in 2022.

Babar only played nine ODI matches in 2022, 679 runs at a remarkable average of 84.87. The 28-year-old slammed three centuries, five half-centuries and only really failed with the bat on one occasion.

It wasn't just from an individual capacity that Babar flourished. The Pakistan captain also led his team from the front, registering only one ODI loss throughout the year.

The highlight of Babar Azam’s ODI performances in 2022 was his outstanding knock of 114 against Australia in Lahore.

It was a must-win encounter for Pakistan after they suffered a defeat in the series opener and Babar delivered when his country needed him most as the Asian side chased down Australia’s massive total of 349 with four wickets in hand and six deliveries to spare.

In the women’s category, England’s Nat Sciver bagged the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year Award for 2022.

Sciver produced another memorable year in an already glittering career, amassing five half-centuries and two hundred to be England's top performer in the year with the bat.

She finished second in run-getters chart behind Laura Wolvaardt, amassing 833 runs at an average of 59.5 and a strike-rate of 91.43. She also took 11 wickets from 17 matches last year.
