Ruturaj Gaikwad checks into NCA for medical advice and treatment after complaining of wrist pain: Report

Gaikwad is part of the Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

Ruturaj Gaikwad | GettyIndia opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has checked into the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after complaining of wrist pain, The Indian Express reported on Tuesday (January 24).

After scoring 8 and 0 in the Ranji Trophy game against Hyderabad, the Maharashtra batter informed BCCI’s medical team that he was feeling pain in his right wrist while batting.

Subsequently, Gaikwad headed to the NCA for further medical advice and treatment. The right-hander is part of the Indian squad for the upcoming three-T20I series against New Zealand, slated to get underway in Ranchi on Friday (January 27).

In case, Gaikwad fails to regain his fitness, it could open up the doors for Prithvi Shaw, who has been picked for the T20I series versus New Zealand. Shaw last played for India during the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in 2021.

Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is also training at the NCA. Iyer was ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury.

Shreyas is part of the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia at home, starting February 9 in Nagpur.

“Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury. He will be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and management,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said in its statement.
