Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has once again grabbed the headlines for his unruly behaviour on the field.
Shakib lost his cool during Match 4 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023 between Fortune Barishal and Sylhet Strikers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday (January 7).
It all happened in the 16th over of Barishal’s innings after the umpire didn’t signal a wide off fast bowler Rejaur Rahman Raja.
The right-arm pacer bowled a slower bouncer and Shakib was certain that the ball had gone over his head. However, the umpire thought otherwise and declared it a legitimate delivery.
Shakib Al Hasan was taken aback by the decision as he charged aggressively towards the umpire and expressed his dissent. He also shouted at the umpire and got engaged in a heated argument.
Amid the ugly scenes, Sylhet skipper Mushfiqur Rahim intervened and tried to calm things down in the middle.
Here’s the video:
It wasn’t the first time that Shakib showed his dissent against the umpire’s decision. During a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match back in 2021, he once kicked the stumps after an LBW appeal was turned down and then protested against the umpire’s decision to call off play due to rain by uprooting the stumps, smashing them on the ground.
