Rishabh Pant undergoes surgery for a ligament tear on his right knee: Report

Pant was involved in a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway on December 30.

According to a report published by mid-day newspaper, Pant was operated by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, the head of the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Mumbai.

"On Friday morning at around 10.30 am Dr Pardiwala and his team conducted ligament tear surgery on his right knee, the surgery was performed for around 2 to 3 hours. The surgery went smoothly," said the report.

The report also clarified that the hospital didn't confirm the development, saying they would not comment on the matter due to the privacy of the patient and that the BCCI would release the statement.

As per the report, after Pant arrived in Mumbai from Dehradun on January 4, doctors assessed his health condition and did some basic health checks before performing the surgery. It also added that the southpaw will take some months to recover completely.

Rishabh Pant met with a horrific car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway on December 30 while going to his hometown Roorkee from Delhi.

As a result, the left-hander suffered multiple injuries to his head, back, knee and ankle. He was initially treated at the Max Hospital in Dehradun before being airlifted to Mumbai.

Earlier, the BCCI had released a statement, saying that the board will support Pant in coming out of this traumatic phase.

“The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh’s family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase,” the statement read.
