Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant was airlifted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on approval from BCCI from Dehradun’s Max Hospital where he was being treated post his serious car crash.
Pant was involved in a car crash on December 30 while driving from Delhi to Roorkee on his own. He was rescued by some locals and a Haryana bus driver and conductor before his car caught fire and was gutted. He had suffered multiple injuries to his face, back, knee, ankle, and hand amongst other things.
He was taken to Saksham Hospital for first aid and then moved to Dehradun’s specialty Man Hospital, where he underwent treatment for skin abrasions and plastic surgery for the cut on his forehead and above his eye.
However, BCCI wanted Pant to be treated by renowned orthopedic Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Hospital. As per the latest report, Pant is scheduled to undergo knee ligament surgery for which BCCI wanted its own medical panel to conduct a full-body MRI scan on the cricketer as a precautionary measure.
The Indian Express reports that Pant’s ligament injury is similar to what India allrounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered last year.
A source also quoted that while there is no set timeline for the return of keeper-batter to competitive cricket, it is expected that the realistic goal could be early June when the final of the ICC World Test Championship is to be played.
“Every player’s body is different but looking at his (Pant) report, our doctors say the ligament injury is like the one Jadeja suffered. As per the reports we received from Dehradun, we were told that Pant would need surgery as early as possible. It looks like he will take more than four months to recover.
The World Test Championship final is in England in June. So if India qualifies for that, realistically, that’s what we are aiming for,” a BCCI official was quoted by Indian Express.
Meanwhile, Pant was shifted only after the board secretary Jay Shah spoke to the cricketer’s family.
“BCCI secretary Jay Shah spoke to Rishabh’s mother and made her understand that it would be best for him if he is treated by the BCCI’s medical team in Mumbai. Once the family was on the same page as us, we arranged for an air ambulance to bring him to Mumbai," the source claimed.
Also, the continuous influx of visitors in the Dehradun private hospital where Pant was admitted to following the accident is also one of the reasons why BCCI approved an air ambulance to move him to Mumbai.
