“I received death threat,” Ramiz Raja explains why he used car worth 1.65 Crore during his tenure as PCB chief

Ramiz Raja was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman in December 2022.

Moreover, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi was appointed as the interim chief selector. Other former cricketers Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are also part of the selection panel.

After being sacked as the PCB chairman, Ramiz has been grabbing the headlines with his explosive remarks.

In his recent interview with Samaa TV, the ex-PCB chief claimed that he had faced death threats during his tenure and was, since, using a bullet-proof car to travel in the country.

Ramiz made the revelation when he was asked about the car worth 1.65 Crore (Pakistan Rupee) during his time in PCB.

“That car is with PCB. I didn't buy that. My successor can also use it. I received death threat. You can't get a bullet-proof car until you face a death threat. That's why I had it,” Ramiz stated.

“I can't reveal the details about it (the threat). But it has been there since Australia came to Pakistan in March 2022. DIG sahab came to my home, there was a whole report that was made. That's why I bought it,” he added.

Last week, PCB issued a statement over Ramiz Raja’s comments against Najam Sethi. Ramiz had alleged that the entire PCB constitution was changed to fit Sethi in the system.

"To accommodate one person, Sethi to be precise, they had to change the entire constitution (of the PCB). I have not seen this anywhere in the world. It has been done in the middle of a season, when teams are visiting Pakistan. They have changed the chief selector, who had played Test cricket. At 2 am in the night, he (Sethi) tweets that Ramiz Raja is gone. This is my playing field. It hurts," Ramiz said during a YouTube interaction with the fans

"It has been made out as if a messiah (Sethi) has come, who will take the game to new heights. We know what he is up to. He wants limelight at any cost. He has nothing to do with cricket, and has never lifted a bat,” he added.

Responding to Ramiz’s remarks, the board released a statement that reads, “The PCB believes former Chairman Mr Raja’s comments are aimed at tarnishing and damaging the impeccable reputation of present Chairman Mr Sethi, adding it reserves it’s rights to pursue legal proceedings to protect and defend the image and credibility of its Chairman and the institution.”
