Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) director Shyam Sharma made fresh revelations about Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s horrific car accident that occurred near Roorkee on the Delhi-Dehradun highway on Friday morning (December 30).

Pant's car reportedly flipped and collided with a divider before it exploded. However, the left-handed batter escaped by breaking the windscreen of his car with the help of bus driver Sushil and conductor Paramjeet to come outside moments before it caught fire.

After which, he was taken to the Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Center for treatment of his impact injuries before being shifted to the Max Hospital in Dehradun.

While the Superintendent of Police and several media reports claimed that Pant fell asleep while driving the car and it led to the fatal accident, the DDCA official’s revelations are completely different.

Shyam Sharma met Pant at the Max Hospital in Dehradun, where the young cricketer told him that he tried to avoid a pothole on the road, which caused the accident.

As reported by Times Now, Mr Sharma stated: “He is stable & recovering well. Our BCCI doctors are in touch with the doctors here. Jay Shah is monitoring it. As of now, he'll remain admitted here. He told me that he tried to save (his car) from a pothole (when accident occurred).”

Notably, Pant had already undergone surgery on numerous parts of his body, but his condition is stable at the moment. However, he could be shifted to a Mumbai or Delhi hospital soon.

“As of now, there is no need (to shift Pant to Delhi or Mumbai) as it doesn’t look like that. Whatever rest has to be done will be decided by the BCCI. They will discuss with his family and see what has to be done. Wherever the best treatment will happen, they will do it,” Shyam Sharma told IANS.

Sharma added, “He’s fine right now. Smiling as of now and he’s recovering. It is good as our kid will recover quickly and I am confident of this currently. He is in the ICU presently.”
