Driver Sushil Kumar Mann and the bus conductor felicitated by Haryana government | ScreengrabSushil Kumar Mann, a Haryana state bus driver, has become the talk of the town after saving India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant from a near-death situation.

Pant met with a dreadful car accident on Friday (December 30) morning while going to his hometown Roorkee from Delhi. The southpaw dozed off while driving and lost control of his Mercedes car, ramming it into the divider and causing the crash.

Luckily for Rishabh, Sushil was present at the spot and he came to the Indian cricketer’s rescue.

“When we reached the car, sparks were rising but it had not yet caught fire," Sushil told media.

“We pulled out the man from the car, laid him down and ran back to the car to see if there were others inside. I saw no one. When we ran back to the man… we saw his limbs moving. When we went closer, he said I am a cricketer, I am Pant. I had not heard of him but the conductor told me he was a big cricketer," he added.

For helping save one of India’s best cricketers, Sushil was fittingly honoured by the Haryana government on December 30.

In a viral video, Sushil and the conductor can be seen receiving the award. Furthermore, the Uttarakhand govt officers have confirmed that the Government of India will confer him with the Good Samaritan award.

“The first hour after an accident, that is the golden hour, is very important for the victim. He shall be treated within the first hour. The Good Samaritan award is to encourage citizens to take immediate steps in such a situation,” the Uttarakhand Police statement read.

Meanwhile, the BCCI on Friday released an official statement on Rishabh Pant and provided an update on his condition, including the list of injuries he suffered.

“Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. Rishabh’s condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment,” the BCCI statement read

“The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh’s family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase,” it added.
