Former India captain Virat Kohli’s poor run of form in Test cricket led to him slipping to his worst Test ranking in the last 6 years at the conclusion of the two-Test series between Bangladesh and India which the visitors won 2-0.
ICC released the latest updated Test players rankings which saw Virat Kohli falling to the 14th spot in batting rankings, his worst spot since November 2016. Kohli managed 1, 19*, 24, and 1 in the four innings of the two Tests against Bangladesh.
However, on the other end, thanks to their heroics in the second Test, R Ashwin, and Shreyas Iyer made big jumps in the updated ICC Test rankings. Ashwin made a big jump across all three – bowling, batting, and the all-rounder – rankings, thanks to his Player of the Match effort in the Dhaka Test.
Ashwin had picked up six wickets in the second Test that saw him climbing to the fourth spot in the bowlers' rankings -- now level with fellow teammate Jasprit Bumrah. He consolidated his second place in the all-rounders' rankings with 343 rating points and stands only behind Ravindra Jadeja (369).
Ashwin also moved up three places to 84th on the updated rankings for Test batters.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who made 86, 87, and 29* in the Bangladesh Test series, was rewarded for his consistent outing as he moved 10 places to 16th overall on the list for Test batters with the right-hander holding a total of 666 rating points.
In the bowling rankings, Umesh Yadav moved five places to the 33rd spot.
Meanwhile, Litton Das moved to the 12th spot thanks to his 73 during the second innings of that match, while spinner Taijul Islam moved two places to 28th after four India scalps during the first innings.
