Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh could be shortlisted again for new BCCI selection committee: Report

The Cricket Advisory Committee will conduct interview of short-listed candidates in Mumbai on December 29.

Chetan Sharma | TwitterAfter India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 last month, the BCCI sacked the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee and invited fresh applications for the high-profile posts.

According to a PTI report, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), featuring Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshna Naik, will conduct the interview of short-listed candidates in Mumbai on December 29 to pick the selection committee members.

The report also claims that last committee's chairman Chetan Sharma has a bright chance of getting shortlisted again along with his colleague Harvinder Singh. Notably, both of them had re-applied for the positions.

"If all goes well, on December 29, the CAC is supposed to meet physically in Mumbai and interview the shortlisted names," a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The BCCI might have dismissed the Chetan Sharma-led committee, but it continues to remain in operation. On Tuesday (December 27), the panel picked India’s T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

As per the report, Chetan and his committee has been given another week's extension and asked to cover this round of Ranji Trophy games.

"They were informed only yesterday that they need to cover this round," the source said.

However, it is learnt that both Chetan and Harvinder are likely to be interviewed again by the CAC and both might continue from their respective zones.

"Chetan has a good chance of either being retained as the chairman or at least the North Zone representative if he is willing to work under new chairman, whosoever it is. The truth is BCCI is not getting any top names. It is not that they haven't sounded out anyone. If Chetan didn't have a chance, why would he apply? There must have been some assurances given," said a BCCI source.
