Indian pacers Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have been struggling with injuries lately. The duo didn’t feature in the recently-concluded tour of Bangladesh.
While Shami was ruled out due to a shoulder injury, Bumrah was still recovering from a back injury that had forced him out of the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.
Earlier this month, Bumrah shared a video of himself on Instagram bowling at full throttle, indicating that he has regained full fitness. It is a good sign for the Indian fans ahead of the home Test series against Australia in February-March next year.
On the other hand, there has been no update on Shami, who was drafted into the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 after Bumrah’s recurring back injury.
Meanwhile, veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has his doubts over Shami’s return for the four-Test series against Australia.
Karthik claimed that Shami is not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training.
"For Shami, it’s a big question, because he is somebody who is probably not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training. He has had an injury and he’s been injury-struck for some time,” he said on Cricbuzz.
Dinesh Karthik also expressed his concern over the injury crisis in the Indian camp, stating that the team management and NCA have to find a way to keep players fit for a long period of time.
Team India were at the receiving end of multiple injury woes during the tour of Bangladesh. The likes of Rishabh Pant, Rohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen and Akshar Patel faced injury issues during the tour.
“The whole Indian backups have been injured over a period of time for some strange reason. The Indian team and NCA need to align themselves towards how they are going to plan in making sure the players stay fit over a period of time,” Karthik remarked.
