Shaheen Afridi deletes his tweet for Babar Azam after Shahid Afridi's appointment as interim chief selector

Shaheen had posted a tweet for Babar after Pakistan's home Test series whitewash against England.

Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam | GettyBabar Azam’s captaincy has come under the scanner after Pakistan suffered a clean sweep at the hands of England in the home Test series.

While Pakistan lost the Rawalpindi Test by 74 runs, they were beaten by 26 runs and 8 wickets in the second and third games in Multan and Karachi respectively.

As a result, the Babar-led side was subjected to an embarrassing 3-0 whitewash on home soil, a first of its kind for the team. This was also the first time that Pakistan went on to lose four successive Test matches at home.

While many fans and experts called for Babar Azam’s sacking as captain following the series defeat, Pakistan’s ace pacer Shaheen Afridi shared a tweet backing the national skipper.

"Babar Azam hamari or Pakistan ki Shan, jaan or pehchan hai. Wo Hamara kaptaan hai or rahe ga. Kuch or #sochnabhimanah hai. Please support this team. Yahi team hame jitaye gi bhi. Kahani abhi Khatam nahi howi. #Respect," Shaheen tweeted.

Interestingly, Shaheen deleted the post a day after Shahid Afridi's appointment as interim chief selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.

While Babar is leading Pakistan in the ongoing opening Test against New Zealand in Karachi, Shaheen's move to delete the tweet has left the fans puzzled.

Pakistan had a good chance of securing one of the first two spots in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings before the England series. However, the humiliating clean sweep has eliminated them from the race.
