“What matters to Indian cricket and fans is a title,” Rashid Latif says Virat Kohli’s number of centuries doesn’t matter

Virat Kohli now has 72 international centuries to his name.

Virat Kohli | GettyIndia batter Virat Kohli slammed his much-awaited 44th ODI ton in the third and final game against Bangladesh at Chattogram on Saturday (December 10).

Batting at No. 3, Kohli scored 113 off 91 balls and was involved in a 290-run partnership for the second wicket with Ishan Kishan (210 off 131 balls) to propel the visitors to a mammoth 409/8 in 50 overs, which eventually ensured their 227-run victory.

With this knock, the veteran campaigner ended his much-talked-about ODI century drought, which lasted more than three years. He also surpassed Ricky Ponting’s tally of 71 international centuries and only Sachin Tendulkar (100 hundreds) is now ahead of him.

While the Indian team management is looking at his century with all sorts of positivity, former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif feels it won’t matter if Kohli goes past Tendulkar’s record of 100 international tons and what matters the most is India breaking the ICC trophy jinx.

“It is not the time to count the number of centuries. It doesn’t matter. They need to win a title. It has been years since India won a trophy. Whether Kohli scores 100 centuries or 200, it doesn’t matter, what matters to Indian cricket and the fans is a title,” Latif said in his latest YouTube video.

“If you look financially, IPL and Indian cricket are far ahead, but now there is pressure from the fans and the media they want a title. Kohli can score 100 centuries if he wants, but the demand has changed. The Asia Cup is gone, and so is Champions Trophy, the 2019 World Cup, and the last two T20 World Cups. 100 centuries has its own place, but India and the Indian cricket board need to win a title,” he added.

Team India haven’t won an ICC trophy since 2013 Champions Trophy. Since then, they have made it to the knockout stages on quite a few occasions but failed to lift the coveted title.
