“You are for me the greatest of all time," Virat Kohli pens emotional note for Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo's World Cup dream came to an end as Portugal got knocked out of the 2022 tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo | GettyStar India batter Virat Kohli on Monday (December 12) shared an emotional social media post for Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that no trophy can take anything away from what the Portuguese footballer has done for sports.

The 37-year-old Ronaldo's World Cup dream came to an end as Portugal got knocked out of the 2022 tournament after suffering a 0-1 defeat against Morocco in the quarter-final match.

Taking to Instagram, Kohli posted a lengthy note and hailed Ronaldo as the "greatest of all time".

"No trophy or any title can take anything away from what you have done in this sport and for sports fans around the world. No title can explain the impact you have had on people and what I and so many around the world feel when we watch you play," Virat wrote.

"That is a gift from god. A real blessing to a man who plays his heart out every single time and is the epitome of hard work and dedication and a true inspiration for any sportsperson. You are for me the greatest of all time," he added.

On Sunday (December 11), Ronaldo said that 'his dream was over' after Portugal's crashed out of FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

"To win a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately, I won many titles of international dimension, including for Portugal," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.

While his post did not talk about international retirement, he started Portugal's last two matches on the bench, a decision which led to speculations over his retirement across the football world.

"Let's hope that time will be a good counsellor and allow everyone to draw their own conclusions," he further wrote.

It is worth noting here that Cristiano Ronaldo is without a club, having been released from his contract by Manchester United following his comments in a TV interview.
